Drawing interpretation once meant a special education teacher judging a child's development from a drawing of a human figure.
Today it is a science.
In the 1970s new drawing tests appeared in the United States, in the 1980s a new theory emerged in Germany, and in the 1990s the psychology of pictorial expression was born, a field that understands more from pictures than ever before.

The science of picture interpretation has changed greatly in recent decades: the research of Prof. Dr. Zoltán Vass produced a new scientific paradigm, the psychology of pictorial expression.
Many institutions still work with methods built on mid-twentieth-century science. The Institute brings the modern, scientific approach in their place.

What you will actually watch in the course
Besides scribbles, the course covers the other main areas of picture interpretation. It teaches the Seven-Step Configuration Analysis (SSCA), and then scribbles, tree drawings, family, kindergarten and school drawings, the psychology of color, rapid reading of pictures, counseling with drawings, couple relationship drawings and art therapy techniques.
The scenes in the films and the original pictures come from the Institute’s research archive. They include:
- scribble tests, tree drawings, human figure drawings and other tasks filmed up close in original test sessions: you follow every movement, every pause and every change of psychomotor tempo from the first second to the last;
- a demonstration of Lundholm’s classic experiment on the affective meaning of the line;
- color paintings from an art therapy session that show the healthy self and the pathological self;
- a psychological analysis of the color choices of painters whose paintings were documented by chance;

Drawing interpretation has made remarkable progress in recent years.
New research is reshaping expert thinking: artificial intelligence methods (SSCA).

HOW DOES IT WORK?
In the new training program you learn the key topics one after another, over 24 weeks.
Studying and the exam both take place at home, and the consultations are online too.
The exam is optional: the knowledge itself makes enrolling worthwhile, and a successful exam earns you the certificate.
The 24 chapters take 60 hours in total, on average 1 hour a week of video lessons. On top of that, we recommend 2-3 hours a week for the downloads and the reading (which you also receive).

You learn to read the anatomy of the line, which you then apply to every other drawing. You get to know the classic scribble tests and how they are used. Psychological interpretation of colors
An expert in drawing interpretation knows the psychology of color thoroughly, since color choice and personality are closely related. This is one of the most interesting chapters: we dive into the science of color psychology and color diagnostics. You learn what liked and rejected colors mean, how individual color keys are revealed, and what is normal and what is pathological.

After line and color, it's time for the classic drawing methods, starting with tree drawings. Many people still rely on Koch's method from 1949, while the field has developed a lot since then. The family drawing is the most important type of children's drawing, because in it a child expresses what words can hardly carry. In the last week of the program you review what you have learned and, if you choose, prepare for the online test that concludes the training (the diploma is optional). You can then submit your projective drawing interpretation paper at any time within 1 year of starting. After a successful exam you receive the Institute of Projective Drawings certification.

Program registration fee 6 x €94£80$102 per semester. The training includes 24 topics, consultations and online lectures, easy to follow and high in quality, built on 30 years of scientific research.
The training consists of 2 semesters, each lasting 12 weeks.
You can take the exam and earn the certificate at the end of the final semester.
The exam is optional: the knowledge itself makes enrolling worthwhile, and passing the exam earns you the certificate.
The certificate is issued by the Institute of Projective Drawings and signed by the Professor. On request, we issue it in several languages.
In addition to the 24 topics, the registration fee includes consultations, live online classes, the optional exam, a successful certificate/diploma, personal attention, a professional community, and help.
With a single payment for the semester:
- We waive almost one monthly payment from the registration fee, so the tuition fee decreases every semester.
- Online Library: for the duration of the semester, you get access to the unique library of The SSCA Method, with all the textbooks you need and rare professional literature.
- Case studies: we provide the participants with the private archive of The SSCA Method, which contains corrected, verified projective drawing interpretation case descriptions and example analyses.
- Test collection: participants will have access to the latest, most detailed collection of modern drawing methods.
- ARTIES projective drawing interpretation software: we provide full access for the duration of the semester to the award-winning, artificial intelligence-based ARTIES projective drawing interpretation program for the children's drawing and adult drawing version, which is a huge help in understanding the drawings.
- You can start right away: we open the weekly chapters for you immediately (the consultations start with your group). It is an option you can choose.
